Participatory education features Q&A with district mayor, anti-gapjil lecture and pop opera performance
District office, facilities corporation and cultural foundation staff join to spread integrity and communication culture across the organization
Dongdaemun-gu in Seoul held its "2026 Second-Half Integrity and Communication Culture Education — Integrity Coexistence Day" on Wednesday afternoon at the district office's multipurpose auditorium.
About 300 employees from Dongdaemun-gu District Office, the Dongdaemun-gu Facilities Management Corporation and the Dongdaemun Cultural Foundation attended the event.
The district organized the gathering to move away from conventional lecture-style training, blending cultural performances into the program to boost staff engagement while strengthening integrity awareness and anti-corruption capacity across the organization.
The event comprised three segments: an "Integrity Communication Q&A" session with the district mayor, a specialist integrity lecture and a pop opera performance by a classical vocal duo.
In the opening Q&A segment, the district mayor answered on the spot questions on integrity and anti-corruption that staff had submitted in advance, with a moderator selecting which ones to put forward. Attendees listened closely to the mayor's candid yet witty responses, showing a high level of engagement throughout.
The integrity lecture that followed featured a specialist instructor who drew on the civil servant code of conduct to address the prevention of workplace gapjil — the abuse of power — and harassment. By presenting and analyzing real-world cases, the instructor effectively conveyed the need to strengthen anti-corruption capacity and held the audience's attention throughout.
The closing pop opera performance offered staff an accessible entry point into the value of integrity by weaving music and education together. It also gave employees worn down by the demands of daily work a moment to recharge through cultural entertainment.
"I hope this event, which explored integrity in a variety of ways, gave employees an easier way to understand its value and strengthened their resolve to put it into practice," Dongdaemun-gu District Mayor Choi Dong-min said. "We will continue working to build a trustworthy public service culture and deliver transparent administration."
