Trains on Seoul Metro Line 5 began bypassing Yeouinauru Station without stopping Saturday evening as massive crowds gathered at Yeouido Han River Park for the Seoul International Fireworks Festival.
Seoul Metro said it began running trains through Yeouinauru Station in both directions without stopping at 6:11 p.m. The measure had originally been scheduled to take effect at 7 p.m. but was moved up as crowds swelled faster than anticipated.
Seoul Metro plans to maintain the no-stop measure until 10 p.m. Police deployed additional officers around Yeouinauru Station to manage the crowds.
Police also closed Yeouido-ro — the road connecting the southern end of Mapo Bridge to the 63 Building — to all vehicle traffic from 3 p.m. to midnight.
