Daegu university club's group chat exposed for sexual harassment remarks, stirring controversy

Screenshots of a university club's group chat containing sexually harassing remarks targeting female members — including comments such as "short-hair feminist" and "chewy" — have been made public, stirring controversy. The club denied the claims as false, but the university has launched a probe to determine the facts.

According to Yonhap, a post appeared Friday on Everytime, an anonymous online community for university students, alleging that members of a club at a Daegu university had repeatedly made sexually harassing remarks targeting female members. The post included screenshots of what appeared to be the club's internal group chat.

The author argued, citing the screenshots, that "sexually harassing remarks were repeatedly made inside the club targeting specific female members."

The club posted a statement on Everytime on Saturday, saying it had confirmed with those named in the post that the allegations were false. The university said it is looking into the matter and will consider necessary measures depending on the outcome of its investigation.

A university official told Yonhap that no formal complaint had yet been filed with the school's human rights center, but that the school was working to establish the facts. "If the allegations are confirmed, the school will take all necessary measures to ensure strict punishment and prevent a recurrence," the official said.
