'You Quiz' pays tribute to 'Peter Pan Dad' Jeon Gyeong-cheol

The production team behind "You Quiz on the Block" has paid tribute to Jeon Gyeong-cheol, the writer known as the "Peter Pan Dad," who died Saturday.

The tvN variety show's official SNS account posted a photo from Jeon's appearance on the program Sunday, accompanied by a tribute message. "Writer Jeon Gyeong-cheol dreamed until the very end of a better world for people with developmental disabilities," the post read. "We were grateful to be able to share your wish on 'You Quiz.' We will long remember the heart you left behind. We offer our deepest condolences."

Jeon had spent more than 20 years raising his son alone — a 27-year-old man with severe autism whose mental age is that of a 2- to 3-year-old.

After receiving a terminal diagnosis of late-stage liver cancer, Jeon devoted himself to securing a stable home for his son, who would be left on his own after his father's death. He spent more than a year knocking on the doors of over 1,000 care facilities across the country.

Last month, Jeon appeared on "You Quiz" to share his story and speak about his son.

During the appearance, he expressed a bittersweet wish. "I want to tell him to forget that his father ever existed and live happily, but honestly, I don't want to be completely forgotten," he said. "I hope I remain as a faint longing — just the memory of an old man who used to look at him warmly." He added that he would "of course be holding in my arms the handsome baby who brought me happiness for 27 years," leaving viewers deeply moved.
