LS Electric's Park Woo-jin wins science and technology decoration at inaugural Engineers' Day ceremony

LS Electric announced Tuesday that Park Woo-jin, head of its Global Product Development Research Division, received a science and technology decoration at the inaugural Technology Developers' Day ceremony held Monday at the Fairmont Ambassador Seoul in Yeouido.

Organized by the Korea Industrial Technology Association, the ceremony honors the dedication and achievements of corporate researchers who have driven industrial technology innovation in South Korea. This year's event was the first since Technology Developers' Day was designated an official national commemorative day.

Park has been a driving force behind the localization of core technologies for low- and high-voltage distribution equipment. He secured proprietary design capabilities by successfully developing next-generation arc-quenching technology — which extinguishes the arc generated the moment electricity is cut — for distribution-class circuit breakers, as well as air circuit breaker (ACB) and vacuum circuit breaker (VCB) series and gas-insulated ring main units. His work raised the technological self-sufficiency of key power equipment that had long depended heavily on imports, while also demonstrating product reliability.

Park has also made his mark in next-generation DC power equipment, a field drawing growing attention amid rising demand for high-power AI data centers and eco-friendly power infrastructure. After developing South Korea's first DC 1000V-class ACB, he led the world's first development of a DC 1500V-class ACB and disconnecting switch unit product line. The ACB and VCB lineup, including DC products, generated cumulative sales of more than 1 trillion won ($738 million) from 2021 through 2025.
