City signs MOU with KAIST and 10 other institutions to develop and pilot urban safety AI models
Daejeon has built a cooperative framework to expand its "Digital Twin Daejeon" initiative and advance an urban safety AI model development and demonstration project.
The city signed a memorandum of understanding for urban safety AI model development research and demonstration Tuesday with KAIST, Wavus and other information and communications technology companies and institutions, aiming to upgrade its urban safety management system by combining AI and digital twin technology.
A total of 11 institutions and companies joined the agreement alongside Daejeon: KAIST, Wavus, Datamaker, Hansung Sysco, Teleworks, Cuba, Samitech, Movements, Lineworld and Linknine.
The participating institutions and companies will collaborate across six areas using their respective technologies and resources. Key areas of cooperation include advancing the urban safety AI model development and demonstration R&D project; establishing strategic plans and conducting joint research to expand the AI-based Digital Twin Daejeon initiative; proposing and developing AI-based digital twin service models to support decision-making; sharing infrastructure, exchanging technology and providing advisory support for research tasks; supporting the construction and use of Daejeon's spatial information system; and jointly planning to attract cross-ministry R&D projects and competitive grant programs.
Through the agreement, Daejeon plans to establish an AI-based decision-making framework for city administration and build an intelligent urban management platform capable of responding swiftly to urban disasters and safety incidents.
"This agreement will serve as an opportunity to elevate Daejeon's urban safety system to the next level by leveraging AI and digital twin technology," Daejeon Mayor Heo Tae-jeong said. "We will work closely with the participating institutions to develop a Daejeon-style urban safety AI model and strive to deliver tangible results that citizens can feel, leading to follow-up projects."
