Seongbuk-gu announced that it was named one of Seoul's outstanding institutions for gender impact assessment and received a commendation from the Seoul mayor at the "2026 Gender Equality Week Commemoration" held Thursday at Seoul Women's Plaza Pium Seoul.
The evaluation recognized autonomous districts that proactively incorporated policy improvements — identified through gender impact assessments conducted between 2024 and 2025 — into actual projects. Seongbuk-gu was selected as one of six outstanding institutions among Seoul's 25 autonomous districts for its substantive gender equality policy achievements in the "Youth Job Creation and Self-Reliance Foundation Building (Seongbuk Youth Policy Network Operation)" project.
The Seongbuk Youth Policy Network is a resident-participation program through which young people actively engage in district governance, identifying and proposing a range of youth agendas covering gender equality and human rights. The program supports greater youth participation in policymaking by creating opportunities for community involvement and facilitating joint discussions on diverse youth issues, including gender equality and human rights, from which policy proposals are developed.
Drawing on the results of its gender impact assessment, the district carried out a series of concrete initiatives: providing gender-sensitivity and gender equality education for participants, establishing the "2025 Seongbuk Youth Policy Network Our Pledge," creating a dedicated gender equality subcommittee and strengthening policy effectiveness through departmental feedback on youth proposals, and hosting a presentation and exhibition-style festival.
The district also conducted ongoing outreach through key community touchpoints — including universities, libraries and community centers — to ensure that young people of all backgrounds, regardless of gender, could participate equally in the policymaking process.
Seongbuk-gu District Mayor Lee Seung-ro said the award reflected the district's commitment to going beyond simply proposing improvements identified through gender impact assessments and actively incorporating them into actual policy. "We will continue to faithfully embed a gender equality perspective across all areas of district administration, driving meaningful change that every resident can experience fairly," he said.
