Ulsan to inspect prices of key chuseok goods

Ulsan will crack down on price gouging and unfair practices such as collusion involving key holiday goods at large retailers and traditional markets across the city from Sept. 11 to Sept. 27. The inspections come ahead of the chuseok holiday.

The city will form a joint inspection team with its five districts and counties to check 19 major seasonal items sold at large and mid-size retailers and traditional markets. The items include seven types of agricultural products, four livestock products, six seafood items and two forest products.

Alongside this, inspectors will examine compliance with price-labeling rules, including the display of sale and unit prices, to ensure consumers receive accurate pricing information.

Any unfair practices uncovered during the inspections will be corrected on the spot. These include overcharging, failure to display prices or countries of origin, measurement violations and mixing products of different origins.

An Ulsan city official said, "To keep prices stable, we will post the results of our price checks on the city website and run card-linked discount promotions to boost participation among businesses certified for fair pricing."
