Busan to hire 195 teachers for kindergarten, elementary and special schools

The Busan Metropolitan Office of Education will hire 195 teachers for public and private kindergartens, elementary schools and special education schools.

The office announced its "2027 school year Busan Metropolitan City recruitment examination plan for kindergarten, elementary and special school teacher candidates" on its website Wednesday morning.

The number of public school positions reflects vacancies from teachers' retirement or early retirement as well as changes in the authorized headcount for kindergarten, elementary and special education teachers. This matches the figures the office had pre-announced in August.

The recruitment will fill 191 public school positions in total, down 116 from 307 last year. That breaks down to nine kindergarten teachers -- eight general and one for applicants with disabilities -- followed by 173 elementary school teachers, comprising 160 general and 13 for applicants with disabilities. Special school kindergarten teacher positions number two, both general, while special school elementary teacher positions total seven, made up of six general and one for applicants with disabilities.

Private schools will add four positions entrusted by three foundations -- one elementary school teacher and three special school kindergarten teachers.

Applications will be accepted through the Busan Metropolitan Office of Education's online teacher recruitment system from 9 a.m. on Sept. 28 to 6 p.m. on Oct. 2. The first-round exam will be held Nov. 7, with results announced Dec. 9. The second-round exam will run from Jan. 6-8, 2027, with final results to be announced Jan. 27, 2027.

The first-round exam will consist of an essay on teaching and a curriculum test, while the second round will include an in-depth interview, drafting a lesson plan and a teaching demonstration. Elementary school teacher candidates will additionally take an English teaching demonstration and an English interview.

For public school positions, first-round exam passers will be selected at 1.5 times the number of planned hires in each field, and final selections will be based on combined scores from the first and second rounds. Meanwhile, the recruitment plan for secondary school teachers for the 2027 school year is scheduled to be announced Sept. 30.
