Man in his 20s sentenced to 8 months for sneaking into women's bathhouse by posing as female

A man in his 20s has been sentenced to eight months in prison after posing as a woman to enter women's bathhouses and peep at female bathers on two separate occasions.

The Daegu District Court's Criminal Division 8 on Monday sentenced the man, identified only as A, on charges of violating the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Punishment of Sexual Violence Crimes.

The court also ordered him to complete 40 hours of a sexual violence treatment program and barred him from working at institutions serving children, adolescents and people with disabilities for three years.

A was indicted after telling a counter employee at a sauna in Jung-gu, Daegu, "one woman," on April 12 last year, then entering the women's bathhouse and spending about an hour peeping at the naked bodies of an unspecified number of women.

He also faces charges from a separate incident on Nov. 23 of the same year, when he entered a women's bathhouse in Dong-gu, Daegu, and remained for three hours and 20 minutes while observing multiple women.

A had previously received a juvenile protective disposition for a sexual violence offense in 2016.

Presiding Judge Kim Mi-kyung said the defendant had "intruded into women's bathhouses on two occasions for the purpose of satisfying sexual desire, and it appears that a large number of women were present in the bathhouse at the time of each offense." She added that he "reoffended without faithfully attending his trial, even while already facing proceedings in this court for a prior case."
