Gyeongbuk College held the "2026 Hotel and Food Service Department KBC Career Bridge Contest Global Master Chef Championship" on Friday at its culinary practice rooms, the 148 Art Square exhibition hall and the main auditorium on campus.
The competition was designed to give high school seniors interested in pursuing culinary studies a chance to explore career paths in the field, while also helping current students strengthen their professional skills and assess their academic progress.
The event was co-hosted with the Korea Culinary Master Chef Association's "K-FOOD Global Master Chef Championship," making for a fuller and more substantive program.
About 146 people attended, including 40 current Hotel and Food Service Department students, 90 high school students from across the country, six active-duty culinary military noncommissioned officers and parents and other guests.
Before the main competition, participants took part in programs covering career and employment guidance in cooking, confectionery and bakery, and food service entrepreneurship, as well as tours of the department's practice facilities, a career information session on culinary NCO positions with the 301st Reserve Noncommissioned Training Corps, and small-group mentoring sessions with current students.
The Hotel and Food Service Department faculty said they would "do their best to use the success of this competition to strengthen students' professional competencies and leadership, and to serve as a guide for prospective students weighing their futures — helping them map out a clear career path and opening the door to a life as a professional chef."
