Andong English Village wraps up 6th-grade program, to expand to 5th graders and preschoolers

The Andong English Village, operated by the lifelong education center at Gyeongkuk National University, will wrap up its regular program for sixth-grade elementary school students Thursday and launch new programs for fifth graders and preschoolers starting next month.

According to Gyeongkuk National University on Tuesday, the Andong English Village ran 17 sessions of its four-day, three-night residential program for sixth graders, with a total of 996 students taking part.

During their stay, students attended English classes with native-speaking instructors across a range of themed activity rooms, practicing everyday English expressions to build their communication skills.

The sixth-grade curriculum covered a wide variety of topics — Murder Mystery, Sci-fi, Cooking, Restaurant, Detective, Art, Coding, Newsroom, Hospital, Airplane and Music — delivered entirely in English.

Evening classes and quiz competitions were also held to boost student engagement and foster a positive attitude toward learning English.

All sessions were conducted 100 percent in English by native-speaking instructors using textbooks developed in-house by the Andong English Village, with an immersive approach tailored to students' achievement levels and participation.

Kim Young-hoon, director of the university's lifelong education center, said the program would expand to reach fifth graders and preschoolers. "We will work to ensure that more students can experience quality English education at the Andong English Village," he said.
