46th National Paralympic Sports Festival
Team claims 9 gold, 5 silver medals
The Ulsan Dong-gu Dolphin weightlifting team claimed nine gold medals and five silver medals at the 46th National Paralympic Sports Festival, held at Hallim Gymnasium in Hallim-eup, Jeju from Sept. 9 to Wednesday.
Organized by the Korea Paralympic Committee, the competition saw Kim Hyeong-rak, 29, sweep the men's +110 kg category with three Korean records — a powerlifting total of 584 kg, a squat of 284 kg and a deadlift of 300 kg — to take a triple gold. Kang Won-ho, 27, also claimed a triple gold in the -100 kg category, setting meet records with a powerlifting total of 509 kg, a squat of 251 kg and a deadlift of 258 kg.
In the -65 kg category, Jeong Bong-jung, 25, won gold in the bench press total (337 kg) and powerlifting (152 kg), and silver in weightlifting (185 kg). Im Gwon-il, 34, competing in the -92 kg category, took gold in the squat (235 kg) and silver in the powerlifting total (431 kg).
In the women's -50 kg category, Kim Hyeon-suk, 30, earned three silver medals — in the bench press total (122 kg), powerlifting (59 kg) and weightlifting (63 kg).
