AI-based patrol robots are set to be deployed at public security sites across Gwangsan-gu in Gwangju.
Two units of the "Patrover," manufactured in 2024 and already tested in other areas, will be deployed first in the Cheomdan district and around Hwangnyong Waterfront Park.
The robots will concentrate their patrols between 6:30 p.m. and midnight, when foot traffic is relatively light, and will relay any signs of suspicious activity to control room operators in real time.
No video footage will be recorded to protect personal privacy.
Lawmaker Lim Mun-young said the patrol robot was "the No. 1 lifestyle-focused campaign pledge" put forward after the death of a local girl surnamed Lee in the area. "We will develop it into a public safety system that citizens can feel in their daily lives," he added.
