A fire broke out at a residential storage building at the entrance of a village in Daeryong-dong, Suncheon, at around 3:42 p.m. Sunday and was extinguished by firefighters within 18 minutes.
According to Suncheon fire authorities, the blaze completely destroyed a small storage structure owned by the homeowner, identified only by the surname A, who is in his or her 70s.
A sustained second-degree burns to the face and chest and was taken to a hospital. Flames were already shooting high when fire trucks arrived, but residents had evacuated and no additional casualties were reported.
Police are investigating the cause of the fire and the extent of property damage.
A second fire broke out at around 4:19 p.m. Sunday on a hillside in Nagan-myeon, Suncheon.
Forest authorities dispatched 12 firefighting vehicles and 33 personnel, bringing the blaze under control in about 40 minutes at around 5 p.m. A wildfire investigation team has been deployed to determine the cause and assess the area burned.
