About 900 citizens and employees join campaign to promote positive parenting
Sampyo Group has launched a corporate social responsibility initiative using artwork by child abuse survivors to spread a child protection message — starting with art education for the children and expanding into a public prevention campaign involving citizens and employees.
The group announced Monday that it had conducted art classes for abused children and run a public child abuse prevention campaign at the 14th Seoul International Children's Film Festival (SICFF).
Since April, Sampyo Group has partnered with social enterprise Aidrun to offer art classes to 10 children staying at Adonpureun Center, a temporary shelter for child abuse survivors. The classes ran five sessions of 90 minutes each.
The curriculum was designed to help children express their thoughts and emotions through drawing and to encourage conversation with instructors and peers. The focus was on using art as a medium to support emotional stability and help the children build healthy relationships with others.
After the classes concluded, Sampyo Group extracted patterns from the children's finished works and had them printed on pencil cases. Rather than leaving the artwork as a one-time educational output, the company applied the designs to physical products as a way of carrying the child protection message to the public.
The pencil cases were distributed to visitors at the 14th Seoul International Children's Film Festival on Sept. 12. Sampyo Group operated a campaign booth at the event together with Eunpyeong-gu District Office and the Seoul Northwest Child Protection Agency.
"Through the works that captured the thoughts and emotions the children expressed in their art activities, we were able to share with the public the importance of protecting children," said Yoo Yong-jae, senior managing director of corporate social responsibility at Sampyo Group. "We will continue our social contribution efforts to accompany children who need protection in various circumstances throughout their lives."
