Woomi Construction selected for urban public housing project near Yongma Tunnel

Woomi Construction has been selected to carry out an urban public housing complex project near Yongma Tunnel in Myeongmok-dong, Jungnang-gu, Seoul.

The company was chosen as the project participant for the development, which carries a total project cost of about 196.7 billion won ($142 million), according to industry sources Tuesday.

The project is the first of five urban public housing complex sites in Jungnang-gu to receive project plan approval from the Seoul Metropolitan Government.

The complex will rise on an 18,904-square-meter site at 1075 Myeongmok-dong, Jungnang-gu, spanning seven below-ground floors and 34 above-ground floors. It will supply a total of 551 units — 428 publicly sold units, 56 profit-sharing units and 67 public rental units — with ground-breaking targeted for the second half of 2027 and move-in set for 2032.

Woomi Construction plans to apply specialized design features to enhance residential quality. All units will face south, and the layout will open sightlines from the front road toward Yongmasan, offering unobstructed views and a comfortable living environment. The company intends to increase the number of flat-type units to 154 and apply a four-bay design to the 59-square-meter unit type as well.

The complex will feature roughly 4,962 square meters of landscaping, six themed gardens and walking paths throughout the grounds. Indoor and outdoor community facilities catering to all age groups will include a sky lounge, fitness center, golf practice range, study lounge, mothers' station, shared childcare center and kids' cafe. A "Book Community" tied to the planned Myeongmok-dong Library will also serve as an open cultural hub connecting the complex to the surrounding neighborhood.

"Starting with this project near Yongma Tunnel, we plan to expand our presence in urban public housing complex developments," a Woomi Construction official said. "As the government and the Seoul Metropolitan Government are actively pushing related projects to boost housing supply in the city, we will continue to deliver urban residential supply backed by our accumulated project capabilities and brand competitiveness."

Meanwhile, Woomi Construction received a score of 95 or above in the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's 2026 mutual cooperation evaluation among construction companies, earning the top rating for seven consecutive years.
