Kim Hyun-ji, first deputy chief of staff at Cheong Wa Dae, has lost her father. She is holding a private family funeral in her hometown of Gwangju.
Kim is receiving mourners alongside family members at VIP Funeral Town in Maewol-dong, Seo-gu, Gwangju, according to Yonhap.
Kim did not notify the presidential secretariat of her father's death and has said she intends to hold a quiet family funeral.
News of the death had not spread widely in the local community. The funeral procession is scheduled for Monday.
Kim graduated from high school in Gwangju and went on to attend Sangmyung Women's University.
Kim served as secretary-general of the Seongnam Participatory Civic Alliance, where President Lee Jae Myung worked as executive chairman, and joined civic efforts to establish Seongnam Medical Center.
