Geumcheon-gu Partners With Myeongmun Foundation to Deliver IT Devices and Kimchi to Those in Need

Geumcheon-gu signed an agreement with the Myeongmun Foundation on Tuesday for the 2026 Geumcheon-gu welfare support project, the district announced.

The agreement marks the third consecutive year the Myeongmun Foundation has sponsored the district's welfare support project, with the aim of assisting vulnerable residents and the next generation within the community.

The Myeongmun Foundation runs programs including in-kind support, scholarships and assistance for youth transitioning out of state care, with the goal of helping talented individuals pursue their dreams in a stable environment. Under the agreement, the foundation will donate 27 million won through the Community Chest of Korea to fund the district's welfare initiatives.

The funds will go toward providing IT learning devices for science and engineering university students and supplying winter necessities for low-income households.

Seven students currently enrolled in science and engineering programs will receive IT learning devices. The support is intended to help students facing financial hardship focus on their studies and prepare for the future.

During the winter season, the district will distribute kimchi to 400 low-income residents as part of Geumcheon-gu's signature program "Geumchi Is Coming," helping them get through the cold months with a reliable food supply.

Geumcheon-gu said it will work closely with the Myeongmun Foundation to ensure youth welfare programs are carried out efficiently and will explore ways to expand the partnership.

Cho Yun-seong, secretary general of the Myeongmun Foundation, said he was grateful for the continuing relationship with Geumcheon-gu. "It is meaningful to be a source of strength for young people in Geumcheon-gu as they prepare for the future, and to help our struggling neighbors get through a warm winter," he said.

Geumcheon-gu District Mayor Choi Ki-chan thanked the foundation for three years of generous giving, saying it had been a great source of support for the local community. "Following the foundation's spirit, Geumcheon-gu will also do its best to look after residents in need and ensure that private generosity translates into real, tangible help," he said.
