Lee to chair third mega-project review meeting Tuesday

President Lee Jae Myung will chair the third joint public-private mega-project review meeting at Cheong Wa Dae on Tuesday, directly assessing plans to improve residential conditions in key regions and the progress of major strategic projects.

Cheong Wa Dae announced the meeting Monday in a press release. It marks the third monthly session Lee has personally chaired and the first held since the Office of the National Strategic Investment Adviser was established within Cheong Wa Dae as a dedicated coordinating body. The agenda includes discussions on improving living conditions in areas tied to mega-project development — with the goal of attracting and retaining residents — as well as a close review of progress on flagship initiatives in semiconductors, physical AI and AI data centers.

Senior figures from both the public and private sectors will attend. From Cheong Wa Dae, participants will include the chief of staff, the national security adviser, the national strategic investment adviser, the senior secretary for economic growth, the senior secretary for social affairs, the senior secretary for AI and future planning, the fiscal planning adviser and the first deputy national security adviser.

On the government side, the two deputy prime ministers overseeing economic affairs and science and technology — from the Ministry of Economy and Finance and the Ministry of Science and ICT, respectively — will attend alongside the ministers of Education, National Defense, Culture, Sports and Tourism, Trade, Industry and Energy, Climate, Environment and Energy, and Land, Infrastructure and Transport, as well as the second vice minister of Health and Welfare. From the business community, president-level executives from Samsung Electronics and SK Group will join to discuss public-private cooperation.

The meeting will open with remarks by President Lee, followed by presentations on four key agenda items. First, the head of the Office for Government Policy Coordination, together with the ministers of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, Education and Culture, Sports and Tourism and the second vice minister of Health and Welfare, will jointly present a plan to improve residential conditions in mega-project regions. The ministers of Trade, Industry and Energy, Land, Infrastructure and Transport, Climate, Environment and Energy and National Defense will then report on progress and plans for building a southern semiconductor belt.

Reports on advanced AI — a core driver of future growth — will also be delivered. The Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy and the science and technology deputy prime minister will jointly present strategies for expanding physical AI and AI robots to the general public, while the science and technology deputy prime minister will separately present the current status and future plans for AI data center development. After all agenda items are presented, a comprehensive open discussion involving all public and private participants is planned to address improving regional living conditions and ensuring the successful implementation of the projects.
