3,830 vaccine doses distributed to 89 animal hospitals across Gwangju
The Jeonnam-Gwangju Special Metropolitan City will launch a fall rabies vaccination campaign next month to protect both pets and residents.
The city will run the program from Oct. 16 to Oct. 30, targeting registered dogs and cats in the Gwangju area.
Pet owners wishing to vaccinate their animals should bring a pet registration certificate or registration device — either an external chip or ID tag — to a designated animal hospital. The vaccination fee, which normally runs around 20,000 won, will be reduced to 5,000 won ($4) during the campaign.
A total of 3,830 vaccine doses have been secured for the program and distributed among 89 designated animal hospitals in the Gwangju area.
Vaccinations will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis, and the program may close early if supplies run out. A list of participating hospitals is available on the city's official website or by calling the 120 call center.
Rabies is classified as a zoonotic disease that poses a serious risk to both humans and animals.
