Businesses near Suncheon Station and the old downtown see boost in foot traffic
A total of about 137,000 tourists visited major attractions in Suncheon over the four-day Chuseok holiday from Thursday to Sunday.
According to the city, Suncheon Bay National Garden and Suncheon Bay Wetland Reserve together drew 93,000 visitors, while Naganeupseong Folk Village attracted 22,000. Songgwangsa temple and Seonamsa temple together received 15,000 visitors, and the drama series filming set in Jorye-dong drew about 6,000.
Tourist activity extended naturally into the city center as well. A survey of accommodation facilities found that lodging demand rose across the urban core — not only near the national garden but also around Suncheon Station and Jorye-dong, an area known for its concentration of bars and restaurants.
City officials view the holiday turnout as a positive sign, noting that visitors did not simply pass through but stayed in the city center and contributed to local commerce.
"We will work to connect transportation, accommodation and dining infrastructure with the old downtown, building a foundation for extended-stay tourism that keeps visitors here longer," a city official said.
