Located on the fifth floor of the Imun 1-dong public complex building, the 827.34-square-meter facility is about four times larger than the previous center. Full operations begin in October, covering metabolic syndrome management, senior strength training, and rehabilitation for people with disabilities.
Dongdaemun-gu in Seoul has established a new community health hub for residents of the Imun and Hwigyeong areas, with full operations set to begin in October.
The district opened the Imun Community Health Clinic on the fifth floor of the Imun 1-dong public complex building on Tuesday. An expansion and relocation of the existing district health promotion center, the new clinic spans 827.34 square meters — about four times the size of the previous facility — and will offer more systematic public health services in the enlarged space.
The clinic was established within the Imun 1-dong public complex building, which was donated to the district through the Imun Zone 3 housing redevelopment project. Building on the functions of the former health promotion center, it brings together prevention, health management, and rehabilitation services tailored to residents' health conditions and life stages — including metabolic syndrome management, healthy aging, physical fitness certification, and rehabilitative exercise — all in one place.
The clinic houses a metabolic syndrome management center, a healthy aging center, a rehabilitation exercise room, the Dongdaemun Physical Fitness Certification Center, and a program room. The facility is equipped to run a wide range of health promotion programs, including metabolic syndrome screening and counseling, health management and exercise education for seniors, fitness assessment and counseling, and rehabilitative exercise for people with disabilities.
Through the end of September, each center will conduct a trial run to identify and address any issues with visitor flow and convenience before full operations begin in October.
The metabolic syndrome management center began normal operations Tuesday and is already running its metabolic syndrome programs. The first session of the "Healthy Habits Program" will run every Monday and Wednesday from Oct. 7 to Nov. 16, for a total of 12 sessions, and is currently accepting participants. A health lecture on hypertension for the prevention of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular disease is scheduled for Oct. 30, with a second session of the Healthy Habits Program and a diabetes health lecture planned for November and December.
The Dongdaemun Physical Fitness Certification Center will hold a "Fitness Improvement Class" in the program room every Tuesday and Thursday from 10 to 11 a.m. through Nov. 12.
The healthy aging center will run an exercise program every Monday and Wednesday from 10 to 11 a.m. from mid-October through Dec. 14. The program will serve a total of 20 participants — 10 per session day — and will include pre- and post-program health assessments and senior strength training. Seniors aged 65 and older will be given priority on a first-come, first-served basis. The program focuses on fall prevention and strength training to help older adults manage their own health and support a healthy later life.
The rehabilitation exercise room will be temporarily open through the end of this month for developmental disability program registration and reservations, with rehabilitation equipment available on a trial basis. From October, the room will operate on a reservation system with five slots per day, and users may re-register after six months. Planned offerings include a circuit exercise program for developmental disability facilities, a "Disability Rehabilitation School," a fall prevention program for older adults with disabilities, and a health management counseling desk for people with disabilities.
Dongdaemun-gu District Mayor Choi Dong-min said the district would do its utmost to make the Imun Community Health Clinic a neighborhood health hub where residents can conveniently manage their health and access the services they need close to their daily lives. "We will support residents' healthy everyday lives through community-based health services that encompass prevention, health management, and rehabilitation," he said.
