Everland, operated by Samsung C&T's resort division, said Wednesday that its kochia bushes are expected to reach peak fall color this weekend.

Known in Korea as "daepsari," kochia is recognized by its round, bushy shape. Its stems have long been dried and fashioned into brooms.

What sets kochia apart is how early it turns red in autumn. As early fall arrives, chlorophyll levels drop while anthocyanin pigments — which produce red hues — increase, causing the leaves and stems to change color ahead of most other vegetation.

At peak color, the intense crimson gives the plant a fiery appearance, earning it the nickname "Burning Bush."

The kochia bushes are currently on display along the Sky Garden path at Everland, shifting from green to pink. The park expects them to turn fully red this weekend.

"Starting with the kochia, maples, ginkgos and other trees across the park are expected to follow in succession from late this month through early November, ushering in the full autumn foliage season," an Everland official said.
