Bitgaram-dong joined the "Millennium Naju Magistrate Inauguration Procession," using light and energy to express the neighborhood's local character.
Landmarks and banners were used to promote Bitgaram-dong as Naju's energy special city.
Bitgaram-dong in Naju showcased a light-and-energy-themed performance during the "Millennium Naju Magistrate Inauguration Procession" at the 2026 Naju Yeongsan River Festival, highlighting the innovation district's forward-looking identity and local character.
The neighborhood announced Tuesday that it had taken part in the procession on Friday — held in conjunction with the Yeongsan River Festival — presenting a performance under the theme "City of Light and Energy: Naju Energy Special City, Bitgaram-dong."
The performance was designed to visually express Bitgaram-dong's identity through the symbols of light, energy and its key landmarks, and to effectively convey the image of a future energy city to residents and tourists who attended the festival.
Bitgaram-dong created large building-shaped costumes modeled after the neighborhood's representative landmarks — including the Bitgaram Observatory and the headquarters of Korea Electric Power Corporation — and incorporated them into the procession.
Participants also formed an "Energy Guardian" unit dressed in costumes and carrying shields symbolizing light and energy, dynamically depicting the protection of the area's major landmarks.
Banners bearing the phrase "City of Light and Energy: Naju Energy Special City, Bitgaram-dong" were carried in the procession, further underscoring Bitgaram-dong's identity as an energy hub.
Particularly notable was the blending of modern imagery — light, energy and an innovation city — into the traditional procession recreating a Joseon-era magistrate's arrival in Naju, creating a distinctive spectacle where past, present and future converged.
The participation also carried added significance in that it wove each neighborhood's distinct character into the festival's traditional content, giving residents and tourists a window into the identity of individual communities.
"Through this procession, we introduced Bitgaram-dong's unique character — its representative landmarks like the Bitgaram Observatory and Korea Electric Power Corporation headquarters, and its identity as an energy hub — to residents and tourists in an engaging way," said Kim Gwi-nam, head of Bitgaram-dong. "We will continue to promote the appeal of Bitgaram-dong widely through diverse outreach activities that combine the area's history, future vision and distinctive resources."
