Nowon-gu District Mayor Seo Jun-o attended a public forum Thursday afternoon on support programs for people with borderline intellectual functioning, held at the main auditorium on the second floor of the Nowon Lifelong Education Center, where he offered words of encouragement to those present.
The forum, titled "Attention Beyond Boundaries, Boundaries Crossed with Nowon," was organized by the Nowon-gu Lifelong Education Support Center for People with Borderline Intellectual Functioning to share case studies from its support programs and explore ways to strengthen community cooperation.
The event opened with a performance by the Yeyemuyongdan, a dance troupe made up of youth with borderline intellectual functioning, followed by congratulatory remarks from guests, presentations on support program cases, and a question-and-answer session. About 100 people attended, including the district mayor, National Assembly members, Seoul Metropolitan Council and district council members, representatives from local education and welfare institutions and businesses, and individuals with borderline intellectual functioning and their families.
"Community attention and cooperation are essential so that people with borderline intellectual functioning can learn and grow at their own pace," Seo said. "We will listen closely to voices from the field and work together to find support measures that make a real difference."
