1,700 bottles available — largest single-channel release to date
Convenience store chain E-mart24 began selling the Gimpo 2026 Edition of Kim Chang-soo Whisky on Friday, with a limited run of 1,700 bottles.
The Gimpo series from Kim Chang-soo Whisky has been released once a year since 2023. This edition draws on four types of sherry casks — amontillado, oloroso, moscatel and Pedro Ximénez — to create a deep, complex flavor profile. Sherry casks are oak barrels previously used to age sherry wine produced in Spain, and they impart a wide range of aromas and tastes to the spirit.
The whisky is bottled using the cask-strength method, meaning no water is added and the spirit is drawn directly from the barrel. It carries an alcohol content of 52.2 percent, delivering an intense flavor and a long, weighty finish. It is priced at 228,800 won ($171) per bottle.
E-mart24 has previously offered limited-edition Kim Chang-soo Whisky releases to strong demand from enthusiasts. The Celestial Series Eclipse Edition, sold in a run of 296 bottles through the "Bottle Order" feature on the E-mart24 app in June, sold out in under two minutes.
Taking that customer demand into account, E-mart24 secured 1,700 bottles for the Gimpo 2026 Edition — the largest quantity of Kim Chang-soo Whisky ever offered through a single retail channel. Sales will end once stock is exhausted.
"Whisky consumers today care not only about taste and quality, but also about the story behind a product and its rarity," said Kim Si-hwon, a merchandise director on E-mart24's liquor team. "We expect the Gimpo 2026 Edition to resonate strongly with whisky enthusiasts as well."
