Trade Vice Minister Park Dong-il: 'decisive lead in manufacturing innovation and strategic industries'
FSC Vice Chairman Shin Jin-chang: 'the right person for inclusive and productive finance'
President Lee Jae Myung on Friday appointed Park Dong-il, currently director general of the industrial policy bureau at the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, as vice minister of the ministry, and Shin Jin-chang, currently secretary general of the Financial Services Commission, as vice chairman of the FSC — a vice-ministerial-level post.
Cheong Wa Dae Chief Spokesperson Kang Yu-jung announced the deputy ministerial appointments through a written briefing Friday.
Kang described Park as "an industrial policy expert who has served in key posts including director of manufacturing industry policy and has broad experience in planning and coordinating overall industrial policy as well as hands-on work in fostering core manufacturing industries." She added that he had "consistently demonstrated a strong understanding of industrial conditions and the ability to coordinate public-private cooperation, including his smooth leadership of a joint government-industry task force to implement the large-scale investment plan for the Chungcheong region."
Kang said Park was expected to "swiftly advance industrial policies that the public can feel directly — securing a decisive lead in future strategic industries, driving manufacturing innovation, and creating quality jobs through regionally led industrial transformation."
Kang also explained the rationale behind Shin's appointment. She described Shin as "an economic official with deep insight into financial markets and industries, having served in key posts including director general of the financial policy bureau and director general of the financial industry bureau," and added that he had "demonstrated expertise across all areas of finance — drawing on strong drive and a keen sense of conditions on the ground — including stabilizing money markets after the Middle East war, providing financial support for ordinary citizens and small business owners, and shaping real estate finance policy."
Kang went on to say that Shin was "the right person to lead the transition to productive finance that revitalizes the economy, while championing warm and inclusive finance that saves lives."
