Daegu Health College held the "DHC-HEART Crisis Response Emergency Simulation: Safety Guardian Project" at its DHC Glocal Learning Center on Wednesday and Thursday, in partnership with the Daegu Metropolitan Support Agency for Customized Senior Care Services.

A total of 61 care workers took part in the two-day training, including 41 lifestyle support workers and 20 dedicated social workers.

The hands-on exercises were structured around a single narrative titled "The Chain of Crises Facing Senior Kim Yeong-ja."

Using a standardized patient and a space designed to replicate the home of a senior living alone, participants were asked to identify fire and fall hazards on their own. Scenarios then unfolded in sequence — a fire, a fall, a seizure and a cardiac arrest — with situation-specific tasks assigned at each stage.

Participants carried out a series of emergency responses, including securing the scene, performing initial fire suppression, preventing further injury to the hip and spine, and administering CPR.

They then practiced handing off patients to medical staff using the SBAR method — conveying the patient's situation, background, current condition and required action in that order. After a simulated discharge, participants re-examined the home environment to identify safety improvements and ways to connect residents with local care resources.

Jung Jae-eun, director of the DHC Glocal Learning Center and a professor in the department of radiological science, said the college would work to "closely link the university's simulation education capabilities with the local community to strengthen the effectiveness of crisis response and build a tighter care safety net."
