Ulsan education office, Lotte Fine Chemical and Ulsan Life Forest collaborate on agricultural technology and ecological experience education
A smart greenhouse and exhibition center offering hands-on education in future agricultural technology and marine ecology has opened at the Ulsan Climate Crisis Response Education Center in Ganjeolgot, Seosaeng-myeon, Ulju-gun, Ulsan.
The Ulsan Metropolitan Office of Education held a completion ceremony for the facility on Wednesday, attended by Superintendent of Education Jo Yong-sik along with representatives from Lotte Fine Chemical, which provided funding through its rural community cooperation fund, and the civic group Ulsan Life Forest, which oversaw construction.
The project was a public-private partnership among the education office, a local company and a civic organization, and the completed facility was donated to the Ulsan education office.
The smart greenhouse features a polycarbonate structure with superior insulation and durability, equipped with automated shading systems, intelligent irrigation and nutrient-supply devices, and environmental sensors, making it a hands-on learning space for future agricultural technology education.
The exhibition center is built around the theme of "the sea and whales" — symbols of Ulsan — and serves as an interactive ecological education space that helps visitors understand the climate crisis and explore carbon neutrality practices they can adopt in daily life.
The Ulsan education office plans to run the center on a trial basis before opening it as a climate and environmental education venue for students from kindergartens and elementary, middle and high schools across the region.
"Through this center, built with the combined efforts of local businesses and civic groups, we will help students grow into ecological citizens who practice carbon neutrality through advanced agricultural technology and ecological experiences," Superintendent Jo said.
