Jeonnam-Gwangju Special Metropolitan City cites digital marketing expertise and online shopping expansion strategy in selection
Namdojangter, the flagship public shopping mall of Jeonnam-Gwangju Special Metropolitan City that posted 59.2 billion won ($44.7 million) in sales last year, has appointed Park Su-in, former CEO of Higowrae Cooperative, as its second chief executive.
The city formed a CEO candidate recommendation committee for Namdojangter, one of its affiliated institutions, and selected Park through a document review and interview process involving 14 applicants. Park will serve a two-year term.
Park has been active in the regional social solidarity economy, having served as CEO of Higowrae Cooperative, auditor of the Gwangju Dong-gu Social Economy Federation, and director of the Byeolbyeol Dong-gu Network Social Cooperative.
Park also ran a design and computer graphics business for more than 20 years. The candidate recommendation committee gave high marks to Park's digital marketing capabilities, online shopping expansion strategy and vision for revitalizing the Namdojangter platform.
Namdojangter had previously served as South Jeolla Province's representative shopping mall, but with the launch of Jeonnam-Gwangju Special Metropolitan City, it plans to strengthen its role as the city's flagship public retail channel — directly connecting rural producers with urban consumers.
The Namdojangter Foundation recorded 59.2 billion won in sales last year and has grown rapidly, with 2,149 registered vendors and 940,000 members.
"Building on our achievements so far, I will draw on the communication experience I have gained in the field and my digital marketing capabilities to set a new standard for a public retail platform where producers, consumers and local communities grow together," Park said.
