The Suncheon Youth Rights Committee held an inauguration and outgoing ceremony for its 6th and 7th chairs at Marina Wedding Hall in Yeonhyang-dong, pledging to advance youth rights and expand community participation under newly inaugurated 7th Chair Seo Jeong-yeong.
The event opened with a welcoming address by honorary adviser Lee Hyeon-taek, who previously served as the committee's 4th chair, followed by congratulatory speeches from guests of honor, the presentation of plaques of appreciation and merit, commendations for distinguished service, the formal handover ceremony, and the appointment of new executive officers.
Outgoing 6th Chair Kang In-su worked to ensure the committee's stable operation and foster unity among its members during his tenure, actively promoting communication and exchange among local youth. He also carried forward the spirit of youth-led initiatives established by previous chairs and members, laying the groundwork for the committee's continued development.
"Since 2021, we have grown on the value of youth self-determination — the idea that young people themselves should think through and solve the challenges facing their communities," Seo said at the ceremony. "I will build on the efforts and achievements accumulated by past chairs and members, and work to create a committee where young people can communicate with one another and grow together."
The 7th executive board plans to maintain the committee's existing commitment to respecting youth autonomy and participation while further strengthening cooperation with local institutions and youth organizations. The board said it will focus on creating opportunities for young people to share their experiences and perspectives, and to translate their thinking on local issues into concrete action.
The event was attended by prominent local figures including Suncheon Mayor Son Hun-mo, National Assembly member Kim Mun-su of the local constituency, Suncheon City Council Speaker Yu Yeong-cheol, South Jeolla Province-Gwangju Special City council member Jeong Hui-seon, Suncheon City Council Administrative Affairs Committee Chair Jang Gyeong-won, Culture and Economy Committee Chair Jeong Gwang-hyeon, council members Kim Mi-yeong and Lee Jae-hyeon, Suncheon Small Business Association Chair Ko Yeong-u, and Suncheon Youth Rights Committee advisory member Lee Gi-jang.
