Ranks 4th among 842 global pharmaceutical companies, placing in top 0.5%
Scores 9 points across environment, social and governance management
Adds to top marks from MSCI and EcoVadis this year
Samsung Biologics has earned the highest possible rating from Sustainalytics, the global ESG risk assessment firm.
The biopharmaceutical company announced Wednesday it received a Negligible rating — the top tier in Sustainalytics' 2026 ESG Risk Rating, indicating an extremely low level of unmanaged ESG risk.
Sustainalytics, a subsidiary of Morningstar, annually assesses the non-financial risk profiles and management practices of approximately 16,000 companies worldwide. Under its five-tier rating system, a lower risk score indicates stronger performance, and the Negligible designation is reserved for companies that score below 10.
Samsung Biologics recorded a total score of 9, moving up one tier from the Low Risk rating it received the previous year. The company ranked 4th out of 842 pharmaceutical companies evaluated globally, placing it in the top 0.5 percent of the industry.
In the environmental category, the company pursued environmental audits and developed plans for hazardous waste recycling. On the social front, it strengthened transparency by establishing diversity policies and publicly disclosing quality and safety targets. In governance, it advanced its management framework through ethics audits and the setting of board diversity goals.
Earlier this year, Samsung Biologics received a Platinum rating from EcoVadis in January, placing it in the top 1 percent of assessed companies. In May, it was included in the Dow Jones Best-in-Class World Index for the fifth consecutive year, and in September it earned an A rating in the MSCI ESG assessment.
"This is the result of consistently advancing our company-wide ESG risk management framework," said John Rim, chief executive of Samsung Biologics. "We will continue to uphold responsible management and transparent disclosure to further strengthen the trust of our global stakeholders."
The latest rating is expected to sharpen Samsung Biologics' competitive edge as it competes for contract development and manufacturing deals with global pharmaceutical majors that increasingly demand high ESG standards.
