Mohsen Rezaei, secretary-general of Iran's Supreme National Security Council (SNSC), said Iran had achieved both military and political victories after the Republican Party led by US President Donald Trump lost the midterm elections.
In a post on social media platform X on Wednesday (local time), Rezaei said the Iranian people had "not only dealt Trump a strategic defeat on the battlefield and in the Strait of Hormuz, but also delivered a political defeat in Washington."
Appearing to have the electoral mood in mind, Rezaei said "in the meantime, Americans have been left to bear the enormous costs of the war Trump started."
Rezaei added that "anyone who stands against Iran will pay a heavy price — from the battlefield all the way to their own doorstep."
