LG Group held its annual safety, health and environment conference — LG SHEC — at LG Science Park in the Magok district of Seoul over two days starting Wednesday, sharing AI-driven workplace safety innovations across its affiliates, the company said Thursday.

Held under the theme "Drive the Shift," the conference explored how safety and environment teams can adapt their working methods as industries undergo rapid transformation driven by AI and robotics transitions.

About 350 safety and environment officers from 16 LG affiliates attended, including LG Electronics, LG Display, LG Innotek, LG Chem, LG Energy Solution, LG H&H, LG Uplus, LG CNS, D&O and HSAD.

Senior safety and environment executives also attended, including Kwon Bong-seok, chief operating officer of LG Corp.; Park Jun-seong, head of LG Corp.'s ESG team; Kwon Soon-il, head of LG Electronics' Safety and Environment Center; Kim Seong-hee, chief safety and environment officer of LG Display; and Park Byeong-cheol, chief safety and environment officer of LG Chem.

Twenty safety and environment officers from overseas operations in the United States, China, India and Poland also attended in person. AI-powered interpretation in Chinese and Vietnamese was provided alongside a live online stream, allowing employees at overseas sites to participate as well.

LG Electronics presented an integrated monitoring system that connects 4,226 CCTV cameras across its domestic worksites and construction sites using a proprietary AI solution. The system automatically halts equipment, restricts access and broadcasts warnings when the AI detects a hazardous situation.

LG Display said its AI system analyzes video footage to assess musculoskeletal risks to workers' backs and shoulders and recommend corrective measures, cutting assessment time from 30 minutes to six minutes.

LG Chem announced that an AI agent it developed in-house reduced the time needed to review process safety management documents by 98 percent, freeing staff to focus on on-site inspections.

External experts delivered talks on a broad range of topics — from AI and robotics developments to industrial safety policy and employee mental health — including Oh Sang-rok, president of the Korea Institute of Science and Technology, and Kim Dae-sik, a professor at KAIST.

LG Group also named six production and manufacturing sites as its "2026 LG Group Model Safety and Environment Worksites," presenting each with a plaque and a cash prize.

"Now is the moment when AI technology is advancing and the way we work is changing alongside it — an opportunity to raise our safety and environment management to the next level," an LG Group official said. "We will ensure the innovative practices shared here spread to every worksite so that everyone can work with peace of mind."
