SDV, AI among key future mobility topics on agenda; GM Technical Center Korea president delivers opening keynote; exhibition booth offers virtual mobility driving experience
General Motors announced Thursday that it is participating in the FISITA World Mobility Summit 2026, a two-day event that began Wednesday at Rolling Hills Hotel in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi Province, to discuss key industry challenges and future directions with global mobility leaders.
The FISITA World Mobility Summit is a leadership forum bringing together executives, chief technology officers and research-and-development leaders from global automotive and mobility companies. This year's event was organized by FISITA in partnership with the Korean Society of Automotive Engineers and features keynote addresses, technical presentations and panel discussions.
Held under the theme "Embracing the Complexity of Mobility," this year's summit covers major technology topics including software-defined vehicles, AI, autonomous driving, battery technology and energy infrastructure.
Brian McMurray, president of GM Technical Center Korea, took the stage as the opening keynote speaker on Wednesday.
GM Technical Center Korea is GM's largest research-and-development entity outside its US headquarters, with facilities covering the full vehicle development cycle — from design and engineering to vehicle validation and production technology. The center contributes to GM's global electrification and future mobility technology development.
In his keynote, McMurray said that navigating complex challenges drives innovation, even as the mobility industry undergoes rapid change through electrification, software-defined vehicles and AI. He also highlighted the enduring importance of human creativity, judgment, ethics and empathy amid advances in automation and AI.
"We welcome the FISITA World Mobility Summit to Korea and are honored to participate in this gathering of global mobility leaders," McMurray said. "We hope this summit will serve as a valuable opportunity to gain insights — drawn from diverse experiences and perspectives — that help prepare the mobility industry for its next transformation."
At its exhibition booth, GM is showcasing technology for developing vehicles in virtual environments through a virtual mobility driving experience.
Earlier, GM revealed its vehicle development framework — linking design, engineering and production — along with directions for virtual validation and factory data-driven manufacturing innovation at its "GM Forward" event held Oct. 21 (local time) in New York.
