The Daegu Metropolitan Police Agency announced Monday it will declare its highest emergency readiness status — known as "Alpha Alert" — from the start of voting through the close of ballot counting for the 9th nationwide simultaneous local elections, set for Tuesday.
More than 3,400 officers will be deployed to guard ballot storage sites and polling stations, escort ballot boxes, and secure counting centers throughout the entire electoral process.
Officers will be stationed by zone around polling stations and conduct patrols to maintain order and prevent disturbances, with contingency measures in place for any unexpected incidents.
Armed officers will accompany ballot boxes after polls close, working alongside election commission officials to ensure their safe transport to counting centers.
Counting centers will be staffed with sufficient personnel to manage access control, maintain order, and respond to any disruptions, including interference with the count or group complaints.
"Election day involves a continuous chain of polling station security, ballot box transport and counting center management, so we will do our utmost to ensure seamless election security through tight situational oversight," Daegu Metropolitan Police Agency Commissioner Kim Byung-woo said.
