The Daegu Regional Office of the National Tax Service is running a traditional liquor pop-up store at Shinsegae department store's Daegu branch through Thursday, in partnership with liquor manufacturers from Daegu and North Gyeongsang Province.
The event was organized to support liquor manufacturers that produce quality products but struggle with marketing and sales, giving them a direct channel to promote and sell their goods.
The pop-up is the first in a relay series of four events planned through July.
Shinsegae department store aligned with the Daegu Regional Office of the National Tax Service on the goal of "supporting regional coexistence and revitalizing the local economy," providing space in its food hall and facilitating the entire event — from product tastings to sales.
Choi Hee-seung, a manager in Shinsegae's food team, said she hoped the event would offer some help to local liquor producers struggling with distribution and promotion. "We will actively introduce pop-up events not only at the Daegu branch but also at other locations, and we will spare no effort in supporting the promotion of local traditional liquor," she said.
Baegeumdoga representative Jung Hyun-sun said she had received several invitations from the department store in the past but had hesitated to take part. "It was thanks to the active encouragement and persuasion of the Daegu Regional Office of the National Tax Service that I found the courage to be here," she said.
Commissioner Min Ju-won said she hoped the event, which has achieved results in promoting and selling local traditional liquor, would continue. "We will also provide active tax administration support for liquor manufacturers struggling with sluggish consumer spending," she said.
