South Chungcheong distributes refrigerator safety stickers with emergency numbers

South Chungcheong Province has introduced an everyday safety measure aimed at protecting residents most vulnerable in emergencies.

The province's autonomous police commission announced Monday it has produced magnetic stickers listing emergency numbers — including 112 for police and 119 for fire and medical services — along with guidance on how to make emergency calls, and will distribute them to vulnerable residents across the province.

The stickers are designed to be attached to refrigerators or metal furniture so anyone can quickly check and use the information when an emergency arises.

In addition to crime reporting and emergency medical, fire and rescue numbers, the stickers include hotlines for school violence and youth cyber-gambling counseling, suicide prevention counseling, domestic violence, sexual violence and stalking victim reporting, and voice phishing reports — covering a broad range of public safety contacts.

Alongside this, under the heading "In an emergency, say this," the stickers outline a four-step reporting guide: clearly state your current location, describe the situation simply and concisely, convey any nearby hazards, and stay on the line and follow instructions — helping people respond calmly even in urgent situations.

The commission plans to distribute the stickers at autonomous police and traffic safety education sessions, various campaigns and events, and through the South Chungcheong chapter of the Korea Senior Citizens Association to reach senior centers and senior colleges.

The commission expects the stickers to be especially useful for elderly residents unfamiliar with digital devices and for children who may struggle to respond effectively in emergencies.

The commission also noted that a single sticker is likely to be seen by three to four family members, and that keeping it permanently displayed at home will help raise public awareness and trust in the autonomous police through repeated exposure.

"This emergency number magnetic sticker is not just a promotional item — it is a lifestyle safety device that helps people report without hesitation in a critical moment," said Lee Jong-won, chair of the South Chungcheong autonomous police commission. "We will continue to push forward with practical lifestyle safety policies that residents can feel in their daily lives."
