Man in his 60s drives excavator to ex-partner's home, threatens to demolish it

A man has been taken into detention after driving a construction excavator to his former partner's home and threatening to destroy it unless she agreed to see him again.

Jeju Eastern Police Station is holding a man in his 60s, identified only as A, on charges including attempted aggravated intimidation and attempted aggravated property destruction under the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Punishment of Domestic Violence, as well as aggravated intimidation, assault and violations of the Road Traffic Act, police said Tuesday.

A had gone to the home of the woman, identified as B, at around 6:10 p.m. Monday after she refused to meet him, but officers who responded to her call sent him home.

A returned at 9:40 p.m., drunk and at the wheel of a construction excavator, and threatened to demolish B's house if she would not see him again. He is also accused of punching B's son, a man in his 40s, who tried to intervene.

Officers who rushed to the scene arrested A on the spot.

A breath test showed his blood alcohol concentration was at or above 0.08 percent, the threshold for license revocation.

"A stated that he committed the offense because he was angry that she would not meet him," police said.
