Sangmidang Holdings has appointed Lee In-young, the former chief executive of SSG.com, as its chief financial officer, according to industry sources.
Lee began reporting to work at Sangmidang Holdings as CFO on Sunday, industry sources said Monday. The appointment marks his return to the retail sector nearly two years after he stepped down as SSG.com CEO in June 2024. Industry watchers see the hire as part of the company's push to improve profitability. Sangmidang Holdings posted a net loss of 42.3 billion won (about $28 million) last year.
Born in 1969, Lee graduated from Seoul National University with a degree in business administration before earning an MBA from Yale University. He joined Gmarket in 2006 as head of finance and went on to lead its finance division and support headquarters. After Shinsegae Group acquired Gmarket in 2021, he concurrently served as head of E-mart's digital new business task force, head of Gmarket's support headquarters and head of SSG.com's support headquarters. He was named co-CEO of SSG.com alongside former E-mart chief Kang Hee-seok in 2023 but stepped down nine months later.
