Yeongdeungpo-gu, led by District Mayor Choi Ho-kwon, will host the 3rd Yeongdeungpo Garden Festival — "Garden Picnic" — at Yeongdeungpo Park for three days from June 12 to 14, offering residents a retreat of rest and romance in the heart of the city.
Themed "A Green Garden Story We Create Together," the festival features a wide range of hands-on programs that let residents experience garden culture firsthand. This year, organizers extended operating hours and expanded family-oriented programming to welcome more visitors.
During the festival, Yeongdeungpo Park will be transformed into a "pop-up garden" filled with vibrant hydrangeas and alliums. Created jointly by the district's community gardeners and local businesses, the pop-up garden will be planted with flowers and greenery that capture the spirit of June, offering visitors a stunning visual display and photo opportunities throughout the grounds.
A rich lineup of performances and cultural programs will delight the eyes and ears. The Residents' Love Concert "A Musical Journey Through the Garden," held June 13, will feature singers SOLE, THAMA, Rakunerama and Lee Hun-ju performing on an open-air stage.
On June 12 and 13 evenings, the lawn plaza will host "Green Cinema," an outdoor movie theater screening "A Friend of Silence," adding a touch of early-summer romance to the night.
Families will find plenty of tailored programming as well. The "Family Potting" workshop lets families design their own miniature garden together, with a participation fee of 10,000 won (about $6) per family. Around 50 families will be accepted — registration is available via QR code in advance or on-site — and eight participating families will be selected to receive small gifts.
Additional children's activities include a picnic sports day, a Seoul-style kids cafe called "Here and There" and a garden library, giving children space to run freely and relax in nature. Flea markets and food trucks will be set up throughout the festival grounds, alongside hands-on workshops such as flower arranging and soap making. A picnic quiz show and an original musical are among the participatory events scheduled to run throughout the three days.
The festival runs from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on June 12 and 13, and closes at 5 p.m. on June 14. The opening ceremony will be held on the first day, June 12.
"I hope everyone takes a moment away from their busy lives to enjoy the ease of a garden and the excitement of a picnic," District Mayor Choi said. "I look forward to this being a time when families, friends and loved ones can come to Yeongdeungpo Park and create memories they will never forget."
