FSS, Korea Federation of Banks revise fraud prevention encyclopedia, release audiobook and e-book editions

The Financial Supervisory Service and the Korea Federation of Banks announced Monday that they have revised and published the "Fraud Prevention Encyclopedia," a guide covering major financial fraud cases and how to respond to them.

The two organizations also produced audiobook and e-book versions in partnership with online reading platform Willa and made them available free of charge.

The FSS said voice phishing tactics have grown increasingly sophisticated in recent years, with new schemes such as romance scams and investment fraud continuing to emerge. It added that financial consumers need to familiarize themselves with fraud methods and countermeasures in advance.

The encyclopedia covers the 10 commandments against voice phishing, along with preventive services such as the "peace-of-mind block" service and the personal information exposure accident prevention system. It also includes a directory of agencies consumers can contact immediately if they fall victim to financial fraud.

The 10 commandments against voice phishing are: hang up immediately on any call claiming identity theft or posing as an investigator; any request to stay at a motel is a guaranteed scam; suspect AI manipulation even from family members — hang up and verify in person; any demand to repay a loan into a third party's account is fraud; and ignore any request for a deposit or collateral in connection with a loan application.

The audiobook can be listened to during everyday activities such as commuting, exercising or doing household chores, with no restrictions on time or place. Willa covered all production costs as part of its corporate social responsibility project, and singer Na Tae-ju, the FSS's honorary ambassador for voice phishing prevention, contributed his talent on a pro bono basis.

The FSS plans to donate copies of the audiobook to 13 online libraries for the visually impaired across the country.

Starting Monday and running through June 21, the FSS is also holding a prize event for audiobook listeners. Those who leave a comment in the audiobook review section describing a financial fraud prevention tip they learned will be entered into a draw, with 100 winners each receiving a 30,000-won (about $19) Naver Pay gift card.
