Hyundai Engineering wins Kazakhstan gas processing facility project, expanding Central Asia footprint

Hyundai Engineering has added to its Central Asia order book by landing a large-scale chemical plant project in Kazakhstan.

The company said Monday it received a letter of award (LOA) from KazGas, Kazakhstan's state-owned gas company, for the Karachaganak Gas Processing Facility project.

The project involves building a gas processing facility and ancillary installations within the Karachaganak complex, roughly 1,260 kilometers west of the Kazakh capital Astana, with an annual raw gas processing capacity of 5 billion cubic meters.

Hyundai Engineering will handle engineering and procurement on the project. Italy-based EPC firm SICIM's local subsidiary will join as the construction consortium partner to ensure stable and efficient project execution.

The win reflects Hyundai Engineering's world-class track record in gas processing plant projects. The company's experience completing multiple large-scale projects across Central Asia — including in Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan — gave it a differentiated competitive edge in the bidding process.

"This contract is another demonstration of our gas processing plant execution capabilities and technology in the global market," a Hyundai Engineering official said. "We will draw on our experience in the Commonwealth of Independent States region to complete this project successfully and further solidify our position in the global plant market."

Meanwhile, Hyundai Engineering has set "technology-based key player in the energy value chain" as its management goal for this year, in line with the energy transition.
