Lee Sang-soon eyes Seoul cafe after Jeju run: 'Looking for the right spot'

Singer Lee Sang-soon has said he wants to reopen in Seoul the cafe he once ran on Jeju Island.

A video titled "A Hannam-dong Cafe Tour with Two INFPs and Brother-in-law Sang-soon(?)" was posted Sunday on the YouTube channel "Kim Na-young's No Filter TV."

In the video, Kim Na-young introduced Lee as a guest for her "making friends" segment. When the production team called the pairing "an unexpected combination," Lee said he and Kim had first connected through another YouTube channel, "Your Stay Recce."

Lee said that while he usually brews coffee at home, he occasionally goes out for a cup — and uses those outings to scout locations. "When I do, I look around at spaces and check out the area," he said.

Kim then asked whether he had thought about opening a cafe in Seoul, to which Lee replied, "Yes, I do want to bring the cafe I had in Jeju to Seoul."

"Right now I'm too busy — I'm doing radio and all that — so I haven't been able to focus on it, but I'm slowly looking around," he said. "I think about where a good spot might be, and I watch where young people are coming and going these days."

Lee drew considerable attention when he ran a cafe on Jeju Island, with visitors flocking to the venue after word spread that he personally brewed the coffee. The cafe later switched to a reservation-only system to manage demand.

He closed the Jeju cafe on May 31, 2024, roughly two years after opening it.

Lee and his wife, singer Lee Hyo-ri, subsequently left Jeju Island, where they had lived for more than a decade, and moved to a detached house in Pyeongchang-dong, Jongno-gu, in September last year. Lee Hyo-ri currently runs a yoga studio in Seoul.
