Partnership to define robot functions tailored to construction environments
GS E&C is moving to introduce robotic automation technology at its construction sites.
The company signed an MOU with Daedong Robotics on June 5 at its research and development center in Seocho-dong, Seoul, to cooperate on "research and development for construction site automation using AI field robots."
The agreement aims to pilot Daedong Robotics' AI autonomous driving robots at construction sites, with the two companies ultimately seeking to co-develop robot models optimized for construction environments. More specifically, they plan to verify the applicability of "physical AI" technology — in which AI systems perform movement, transport and repetitive tasks in real physical settings — to active construction sites.
Under the MOU, the two companies will assess how robots can address practical challenges on job sites, focusing on areas such as materials transport and repetitive labor. GS E&C will contribute its operational experience and pilot infrastructure, using the data gathered to define the robot functions and operating conditions required in construction environments.
"Digital transformation and automation in the construction industry are essential to improving safety and productivity on site," a GS E&C official said. "We will secure robot technology optimized for construction environments and strengthen our smart construction competitiveness."
Meanwhile, Daedong Robotics is a robotics specialist firm founded in 2024. This year it appointed Kang Seong-cheol, currently executive vice president of Daedong Mobility, as its new CEO, and has since focused on building competitiveness in industrial robotics.
