Police have opened a preliminary investigation into BGF Networks after the company suffered a customer data breach, with authorities vowing to quickly identify and apprehend the suspect.
The Korean National Police Agency's National Investigation Headquarters said Monday it launched a preliminary inquiry June 6 to establish the full facts of the case and swiftly apprehend those responsible for the leak of personal information from CU's parcel delivery service.
"We plan to determine how the information was leaked and the scope of the damage, and will promptly carry out the necessary procedures to identify and track down the suspect," a police official said.
Also on June 6, BGF Networks, which operates CU's parcel delivery service, disclosed the breach on the CU POS website. The company said it had confirmed that "an unidentified hacker gained unauthorized access on June 4 and leaked customers' personal information," and offered a formal apology.
