Skip the office: Megabox to screen all South Korea World Cup group-stage matches live

Fans will be able to catch World Cup fever on the big screen as a theater cheering event comes to cinemas nationwide.

Megabox announced Tuesday it will broadcast all South Korea national team group-stage matches of the 2026 FIFA North America World Cup live at major locations across the country, starting with the opening match on Friday.

The live screenings will cover South Korea's match against the Czech Republic at 11 a.m. Friday, followed by the Mexico match at 10 a.m. on June 19 and the third group-stage game against South Africa at 10 a.m. on June 25.

Megabox will operate the screenings as a "live cheering hall," allowing moviegoers to eat, drink and cheer freely inside the theater.

Since most matches fall around lunchtime, Megabox has also prepared group discount packages for companies and clubs looking to watch together during their lunch break. Tickets are priced at 25,000 won (about $16), with a 2,000-won-per-person discount for group bookings of 20 or more.

In addition, the first moviegoers to arrive at each live screening will receive a cheering clapper bearing the official World Cup emblem. Megabox will also hold a prize draw offering a Coca-Cola LG gram package and five Coca-Cola 26 FIFA Polar Bear keyrings.

"We hope fans will come enjoy the thrill of a theater goal in a cool cinema during the daytime matches," a Megabox official said.

Meanwhile, the 2026 FIFA North America World Cup runs from Friday through July 19 — 39 days across three host nations: the United States, Mexico and Canada. It marks the first World Cup co-hosted by three countries and the first shared hosting since the 2002 Korea-Japan tournament 24 years ago.
