One-stop delivery from traditional market to doorstep
First case under MOU signed with national merchants federation last year
CJ Logistics is rolling out a cooperative logistics service designed to make shopping at traditional markets more convenient for customers while supporting local merchants' sales operations.
The company said Tuesday it has installed a delivery reception center at Daejeon's Taepyeong Market, marking the first introduction of a service that ships purchases made at the market directly to customers' homes.
The project is the first concrete step under a memorandum of understanding CJ Logistics signed with the Korea Federation of Merchants in December last year to build a cooperative logistics model for traditional markets.
The delivery reception center links QR-based order intake with CJ Logistics' distribution network through a joint delivery hub the government established to revitalize traditional markets, allowing shoppers to have their purchases sent to any address they choose.
Shoppers are relieved of the burden of carrying heavy bags, while merchants can handle parcel intake and dispatch more easily. Once a customer buys a product at the market and requests delivery, a reception center manager visits each stall to collect the items. CJ Logistics' network then ships them anywhere in the country.
Taepyeong Market was chosen as the first site because it draws stable demand from the large apartment complexes nearby. Its experience operating a joint collection facility and its own on-site staff also made it well-suited for the QR-based cooperative logistics model.
CJ Logistics plans to build on the Taepyeong Market launch by deepening its partnership with the Korea Federation of Merchants and extending the cooperative logistics service beyond traditional markets to other areas, including regional product exhibitions.
"Starting with the Daejeon Taepyeong Market delivery reception center, we will continue to expand our cooperative logistics service so that we can improve the convenience of traditional market shopping and grow together with local merchants," said Yoon Jae-seung, head of CJ Logistics' O-NE division.
Meanwhile, CJ Logistics served as the dedicated logistics provider for the 21st National Excellent Market Expo held in Cheongju last year, supplying delivery services throughout the event.
