Netanyahu says Trump pledged firm commitment to dismantling Iran's uranium facilities in MOU talks

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu discussed a memorandum of understanding being pursued between the United States and Iran with US President Donald Trump in a phone call, the Israeli prime minister's office said Thursday.

The office said in a statement that Trump called Netanyahu on Friday and that the two discussed "a memorandum of understanding being pursued with Iran for the purpose of initiating negotiations."

The statement added that while Israel is not a party to the MOU, Netanyahu expressed gratitude for Trump's "firm commitment" that any final agreement resulting from future talks would include the removal of enriched uranium material, the dismantlement of uranium enrichment infrastructure, restrictions on missile production, and an end to Iranian support for proxy forces in the region.

Earlier Friday, Trump told reporters at a proclamation signing ceremony at the White House that "we just made a great settlement with Iran on the war" and that only final document adjustments remained. "It will be wrapped up within the next few days, and the signing will probably take place in Europe," he added.

He went on to say that the Strait of Hormuz would be opened as soon as the end-of-war agreement was signed, and that Iran had agreed never to possess nuclear weapons.
